3 Days to Go!

5 Jun

The in-laws are flying in tonight! We’ve been in a rush getting the house cleaned up and trying to get laundry done so we can pack for our honeymoon. In-between showing everyone around and introducing my parents to Colin’s parents, there wont be much time to do that!

I can’t believe it’s finally here! You probably wont hear from me for a little while, but I will try to get a few updates in before the post wedding update. But the bridesmaid dresses came in, the in-laws are flying in tonight and now we just have to get through it all!

I feel like I have spend the last months training for a marathon and race-day has finally arrived!

10 Days To Go!

29 May

We are in the final stretch of things and MAN have I been busy! Seating chart has been completed, wedding favors are complete and our final payment is going to be paid tomorrow! Also, since I last posted I have also gotten a new job, which I start after we get back from our Hawaiian honeymoon! I was planning on seriously job hunting AFTER the wedding, but the timing of this worked out so well I couldn’t have planned it better if I tried! Lots of good things happening! Many amazing life changes merely days away.

There have been some bumps along the road also. One such bump had to do with my bridesmaid dresses. Like most bridesmaid dresses in the United States, the dresses are made in China after they are ordered. Normally this can take around 3 months, but that was not as issue as we ordered our dresses back in late January. At least so I thought. The delivery date for the dresses, which was May 11th, came and went and the bridal shop we purchased our dresses from were having similar issues with other orders as well. It turns out there was a holiday in China at the beginning of May and production stopped for close to a week, putting them very behind schedule. I am not sure how true this story was, but the bridal shop understood my plight and worry and began bending over backwards to keep me from freaking out. I understood that it wasn’t there fault, but I was lucky that the color I chose for my maids was black. Easily replaced with another dress if needed. Thankfully, this was all resolved last week. Though we are no longer getting the original dresses I ordered, they are being replaced with a floor length black gown in a similar style. They will be lovely and it didn’t cost a cent for them to replace it. I also received word that the dresses arrived today! Here is the new dress, except it will be solid black. Black dress with the black sash:

Now, the only things left to do are to finish crafting the table numbers and finish getting all the candle holders together. Also, I am finishing up all the gifts and goodies for the rehearsal dinner. Our out-of-town guests should start arriving this weekend, so it is time to get our house in order for company. I also need to find time to pack for the honeymoon, but these all seem like such small things in comparison to everything else I have been planning over the past 9 months! Time has literally flown right by! So grateful it is finally here!

One Month Away

9 May

One month left until the wedding. Now the real scrambling begins! We have officially received all of the RSVPs and our head count it only just SLIGHTLY over our original estimate. This is all great! Now I just need to finish up all those loose ends!

Time to finalize that seating chart, and finish crafting my favors. I am already in the midst of setting up the final appointments for all of my vendors so we can do a final talk through and I can hand over the final payments. I am starting to freak out a little bit! But I am SO excited. I have been loving the planning process, but I am ready for it to happen. I am ready ready to be finished with the planning and ready to start my life with my new husband.

Also, I am REALLY ready for that honeymoon!

30 days until the big day. Commence with the freaking out!

Little Extras

1 May

Those little extras, those finishing touches. All those little, personal details that make your wedding uniquely you and special. Those are what I am scrambling to complete and we are now in the month of May. Mere DAYS before the wedding really. A couple weeks ago my Maid of Honor, Bonnie, came over and we got started on the wedding favors.

For favors, Colin and I decided to stick with our garden theme. We bought a bunch on mini clay pots for a mere 69 cents at our local Michael’s. To match our floral decor, we chose oranges, purples, and pinks/fuschias to paint the little tiny pots to give them some fun color. Inside each pot we put a little bag of seeds for our guests to plant in their own gardens at home. I purchased these seeds from American Meadows and got a great deal by purchasing them all in bulk! Each bag of seeds roughly came out to around 12 cents each. Once the seeds were added to the pots, each was covered with a little bit of tulle and finished off with a bright colored ribbon to match. On each favor, we attached a little label that has our names and the date and reads “Watch Our Love Blossom.” The labels were purchased from My Own Labels, and ended up being about 84 cents each!

In total each of the favors ended up being about $1.65 each! Not too shabby, since favors can sometimes cost a hell of a lot more. I am really happy with the way they came out. They are a great personal touch and they really go well with the overall theme of our wedding. I am about halfway done with making them so far. Time to get going on the rest!

Touching Story

18 Apr

As the wedding approaches, I find myself a mixed bag of emotions. You find yourself stressed and frustrated over funds and the tiniest detail, but then you stumble across a story like this, and it puts it all in perspective. There are things, much more important things, to be grateful for.

Please read this beautiful article about love, and how fleeting it can be.

Business Time

16 Apr

Not all aspects of the wedding planning is fun. Though I wish it was all cake tasting and crafting, there are official things that need to be done in order for the wedding to actually take place. Things that involve government buildings and paperwork. Now as we are getting so close to the actual wedding date and the RSVPs are rolling in, it’s time to get more down to business.

Colin and I recently went down to the county clerk’s office to get our marriage license. I wanted to get this done as early as possible because  I just had an image of myself the day before the wedding, running around like a crazy person trying to fit in all these important last minute details. I am sure I will still be doing that, but I am hoping my business plan will help keep things in order and less stressful. We did manage to get our marriage license all settled and ordered enough copies of it to make the name changing transition a bit easier on me. My dear friends who have gotten married before me told me to get several copies, that way it would speed up the process.

Also, I have been shopping around for rehearsal dinner venues, and we finally decided on a location for that as well. Now it’s just a matter of selecting a menu for the evening and making sure people are going to be well fed and happy.

And least fun of all is setting up my final meetings with the vendors. The meetings where we go over all the details again and again and make sure our visions match. Of course this is also when I start forking over all the checks, which might be the most painful part. Colin and I have been living on a strict budget in order to save for this wedding, and watching it all our hard-earned money leave our bank account in large chunks is going to be painful. But hopefully this will mean our wedding will be beautiful, and everyone will have a wonderful time.

Keep the RSVPs rolling in people. I am ready for you.

Much Love,

The Bumbling Bride
